Interested in Running for Office in CDA?
The College Democrats of America holds elections for its national leadership positions annually at convention. To ensure that the elections are as democratic as possible and to ease the process for all potential candidates, the following is a general guide to the candidate nomination process.
Candidate Declaration/Nomination Process
The candidate declaration period for national office begins one month, June 23, 2009, before the convention. In order to declare your candidacy, email a statement of candidacy no longer than one thousand words to Executive Director Tamia Booker at bookert@collegedems.com during the nomination period. The declaration period ends on Wednesday, July 22 at midnight.
To run for President and Vice President, candidate declarations must be submitted together as one ticket consisting of two individuals of the opposite gender. For all other positions, a normal declaration of candidacy pursuant to the above standards will suffice.
Executive Board Positions
The following are the national Executive Board positions up for election:
- President
- Vice President
- Director of Communications
- Director of Development
- Director of Political Affairs
- Director of Programs
- Director of Membership
National Council Elections
The National Council Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary will be elected at the convention. Each state federation and US outlying territory will meet and place their votes for the candidates. The current National Council Chair will appoint an election judge to tally the final vote count. If an election is uncontested, then a simple vote of affirmation is sufficient.
