Development Assistant
Progressive Majority is a national political action committee dedicated exclusively to electing candidates who will fight for a broad progressive economic and social agenda. Its mission is to elect progressive champions at the state and local levels and it accomplishes this by recruiting and developing progressive candidates to run for office; organizing a nationwide network of donors for targeted races; and developing concise, effective political messages for progressive campaigns.

All applicants must support a broad progressive agenda and be committed to using the electoral process to effect social change. Position Summary
The Development Assistant is responsible for a wide variety of administrative duties, including working with the Development Office and Development Director to implement all fundraising programs and general departmental support. S/he reports directly to the Development Director. This is based in Washington, DC and travel will not be required.
Essential Functions
Manage Development Directorâ??s daily and long-range appointment schedule by planning and scheduling meetings.
Serve as liaison with national and state-based finance and development staff.
Book travel arrangements and produce detailed itineraries for all fundraising trips by Development staff.
Manage and maintain donor and prospect database.
Process contributions and generate donor thank you letters.
Research prospective donors and write biographies assessing their political background and giving history.
Assist with the production and assembly of the monthly renewal mailings and direct mail pieces.
Assists with the planning and implementation of national fundraising events.
Assists with all on-line fundraising efforts in conjunction with the Development office and Online Manager.
Prepare expense and income reports for compliance officer and assist with any follow up required.
Assist Development department with the coordination of meetings and events.
Recruit, interview, hire, and supervise development interns.
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
All applicants must be:
Energetic, motivated and willing to take initiative.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Able to work with minimal supervision as well as in a team.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
Proficiency in NGP preferred but not required.
Experience with HTML and PageMaker a plus.
Previous campaign experience or campaign background a plus.
BA/BS or equivalent work experience.
Ability to start immediately.
Salary Range
Commensurate with experience.
