An earlier post tonight prompted me to write this. Why can't we leave religion out of government? Case in point: Gay marriage.

All of the candidates do not support gay marriage and why? Just answer this one simple question and you will find it is church in the state.

I agree...but the country was founded on Christian beliefs. Thye majority of the country has some Christain belief. Majority rules...that's the way our government works.

Same sex marriage brings out the GOP base in droves base and is suicide for any politician. Same thing with gun conrtol..

So candidates are saying what exactly? All of the candidates except Kucinich were taking the same position which leads me to believe a government is ruled by religion instead of common sense.

most people are raised with some type of faith and a value system based on faith. You cannot take faith out of who people are and how they make decisons. Even law makers. it's part of who they are and yes...their decisions reflect that.

You're spot on about Kucinich...but look where it got him...politcal suicide..most people think he's a little 'out there'

I don't want my decisions based on religion.

Many of our laws come from Bible teaching. Thou shalt not steal...kill...etc.

One more thing. With all these faith forums like Hllary and Obama have done......Democrats are trying to move back to the right at least some on faith. We lost that whole voting block...and we shouldn't have. Democrats are the compassionate ones, the stewards of the earth...care for people that need help.....

watch and lsiten to Democratic candidates. heyy opnely talk aboter faith....things are changing

Oh OH! I know this one.

Because the people that go to the churches live in the states.

ha ha ha.

oh its late and I'm being silly. It just cant be done. Because what you believe dictates your vote. It always has and will. Thats why its important to know the facts. As much as you can.

My belief
By Gretchen Aug 25th 2008 at 1:22 am EDT (Updated Aug 25th 2008 at 1:22 am EDT)
is that a marriage is a commitment before God-- SO those people who go to the court house to legally commit whether they are a man/woman, woman/woman/ or man/man should be a civil commitment NOT a marriage... It should be churches that decide whom they will marry...

visit the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, it will read Jefferson's words engraved: "I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every from of tyranny over the mind of man."

The why is easy
By Jan CO Aug 25th 2008 at 2:14 am EDT (Updated Aug 25th 2008 at 2:14 am EDT)
The majority of voters don't agree with it. It costs votes and until more people come around about it, it's not going to change. OR it will change as soon as we get 4 new SC Justices who will interpret the constitution correctly.

Question back to you mel.....what about getting civil unions legal in every state along with full spousal rights that all other couples have? Wouldn't that be a good start in the meantime?
