we all know we need change...and Obama supporters beleive we can trust him, believe in him, to deliver that change we desperately need.

if the way he ran his campaign, his VP pick is any indication of his leadership skills...we're off to a good start.

How about this question:

What does "Maverick" or "Straigt-Talk Express" mean?

Mel, we all know you already know the answer to your question.

Re: Marketing
By Steve Wilson Aug 24th 2008 at 8:49 pm EDT (Updated Aug 24th 2008 at 8:49 pm EDT)
I have heard him say dozens of times that he cannot make any changes without our help.

The biggest change I expect is that when the Bush "expire on their own" tax cuts go away, he will not re-new them for people making more that $250,000/yr and that he will sign (not veto) just about everything that gets through the Dem controlled Congress. Those changes are sufficient for me to support this ticket. MC Cain adminsitration would be total gridlock as nothing would get past his veto, especially health care changes that would force insurance co's to cover pre-existing conditions.

I don't expect, but I can hope, that he will end the rediculous "War on Terror" by treating it as a threat that will always be with us, and not act like there is a military solution to everything.

go away

mel - not in the mood.

you want to help me change something? come to my town and help me register voters that the local democratic leadership refuses to encourage.

one has said she was an hrc supporter and because of that - she would not support Senator Obama nor would she volunteer for any efforts to get folks registered. that is just selfish - and THAT is the reason why change is needed here.

it doesn't matter who she supports - but there should be a desire to at the very least to get folks registered to vote.

Change
By Rob-33704 Aug 24th 2008 at 8:34 pm EDT (Updated Aug 24th 2008 at 8:34 pm EDT)
On the History Channel they quote a Native American chief who said of the westward expansion of the settlers, "One thing was certain - there will change."

Change is a constant and there is no real gridlock in Washington. Legislation gets passed all of the time.

The problem is most of this change does not benefit the "average" citizen.

"Change we can believe in" is change which benefits the average citizen.
Re: Change
By ! Bob M. Obama-Biden South Texas! Aug 24th 2008 at 8:48 pm EDT (Updated Aug 24th 2008 at 8:48 pm EDT)
I for one believe not just in Obama's ability to create change for the better in Washington. I also believe in our ability to create change through him. We are the ones who funded his campaign instead of special interests.

We are his special interest group. He grew up fairly poor like many of us. I also had to take out student loans. He does not think 5 million dollars is the cut off for rich versus average folks. He doesn't want to keep giving tax cuts to the wealthy and starving the rest of us. He also doesn't want to keep us in Iraq any longer than necessary.

He also wants to see everyone with health care. What is there not to believe in.

You're right here.........That's what Obama is running on us the people.....We have to push Congress and his administration to effect the change we want.

Just Vote November 4th and sit back for someone to do it for us.......We the people must be accountable in this Change too!

Specifics
By Rob-33704 Aug 24th 2008 at 8:43 pm EDT (Updated Aug 24th 2008 at 8:43 pm EDT)
As for specifics mine start with the following:

1. The elimination of taxation on incomes of less
than $75,000 per year.

2. A federal minimum wage of at least $15 per hour.

3. The taxation of all trust funds - which, by the
way, can currently remain untaxed for 100 years
or more.

Their current tax free status fosters an accumulation of wealth which then remains under the control of the few virtually forever.

4. The outlawing of all interest charges.

The charging of interest is a vile, evil practice which is offensive to the LORD - the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and Jesus Christ.

Prior to the Council of Nicea in 325 AD the church acrually forbade Christians to charge interest.

This change at Nicea was made at the insistence of the Emperor Constantine.

Permitting the charging of interest was part of the deal which the church made to become the state religion of the Roman Empire.

It was an immoral and sinful decision by the church

What good is an individual laundry list of things that people want to change? Do you really think it will make either candidate get more specific? If voters believe that a politician has a "solution" for higher gas prices, they are not realistic. That's like saying you can "destroy" evil in the world, or "win" wars by declaring that IRaq is now a friend. Ask Israel if they think Iraq will ever be our friend.

FYI, I have no financial interest in the "oil business" . I quit my day job 12 years ago and now do part-time contracting to help the government collect motor fuel taxes.

I'll go with affordable health care for every citizen, and maybe not put this man out of busine, but ensure he pays his fair share of taxes if his business is here.

No specail tax cuts for his business located in other countries.

That would work for me, IMHO

Your wasting your breathe here Mel
By Millie Aug 24th 2008 at 9:03 pm EDT (Updated Aug 24th 2008 at 9:03 pm EDT)
It's funny those very words helped to lead me register as a republican today. Dems have been running congress for a whwile now and things are not any better. I would share my story of what lead me, a 22 year Dem to the "other side" but the fact of the matter is people here could care less about the real issues that are driving people away. If you have a valid reason or concern not to support Obama rather then discuss it they attack you. When you ask a question like yours you get sarcasm for replies. It's arrogance and you will never get a serious reply and never have your concerns and questions answered in an adult civilized manner on this board. You should know that by now Mel.

If you do not have blind faith and follow like a sheep you are considered a traitor. It's almost like the two parties have flip flopped on their values and who they are. The Dems boast and brag about a GOP politician endorsing Obama while at the same time throwing a Dem Politician out for supporting McCain. Who looks more Democratic now?

The Dems attack the Republicans for the 2000 vote with Gore but use the exact same playbook to silence two states in their own primary and then acting like Gods instead of elected leaders decide to give back the voting rights when it doesn't matter anymore. The Republicans on the other hand counted ALL votes and then punished the candidates with their math, not the voters. Again who looks more Democratic now?

Today I was at a county fair and the Republicans and Dems had their booths set up. I had to wait 20 minutes to fill out my Voter Card to change Party Affilation because there were so many people in front of me doing the same thing. The Dems on the other hand only had a handful of people around their booth. But the really sad part is the Dem volunteers were jeering us and many of us had kids with us. I wonder what lasting impression they made on them and how our kids will remember this day when it is their turn to register. The attacks, belittling and sarcasm mixed with arrogant indifference to those who refuse to follow a man blindly into the WH really have cost this party more then anyone wants to believe at the moment.

And believe it or not today was a very hard day for me but many of you from Liz to Michael on The Beach to all the others who felt the need to "destroy" the reputation and impact of the Democratic Politicians that stood against Obama as well as attack the Clinton supporters played a HUGE role in my decision. It's like being on a playground when your a kid, I will never choose to go with the group of bullies and this time I did not either. And Mel you never have and I hope you stand firm to your ground. Now that I have finally "officially" made my decision and switched, I will not bother your board again. You've made it clear my vote, my thoughts and concerns were not wanted here from the beginning unless I was an Obama supporter.

Funny thing is I was never a Clinton Supporter until I cam here and saw how twisted the facts on her were and how vicious the attacks were. It was only then I knew she had to be the right candidate to inspire such intense attacks.

BTW my guess is Mr. McCain will be choosing the Gov. of Alaska for his VP.

I am glad you have found the group that most represents who you are, and that you have decided that you will not be bothering our board again.

We are loosing many of our "fringe" that started in the primaries with the slogan "anybody but Obama", and I for one am grateful that in 2008, we have had the opportunity to SEE them----and they have been forced to choose.

We are only stronger for it----and for every one that we have lost, Dean's 50 state strategy and the hard work of the majority has replaced them with 10 who really embody the core of the democrat party.

Enjoy your new party

But they are "registering" and "building" right?

I have a hard time with that statement too. Most people I know stopped paying attention when the primary ended and they were either for Obama or they were not and nothing was going to change that.

I have not found a voter in my real world yet who has not already chosen who they will vote for and unlike most elections they seem pretty firm and even more importantly very COMFORTABLE with their choice. There is no overwhelming support for Obama in our circles, in fact I would say if I counted it leans toward McCain.

I think voters in Fla, Ohio and Penn will be the deciding factor on who is the next US President, provided of course their votes are counted. Never know, both parties are now guilty of silencing votes in the Presidential Election Process in this decade.

Change I can believe in
By Jacob Clark Aug 24th 2008 at 9:17 pm EDT (Updated Aug 24th 2008 at 9:17 pm EDT)
A change in tone is needed desperately. The Republicans have turned back the clock to the early 1900's, the age of the robber barons. Barack Obama can move this country into the 21st Century, which is where we are and where we need to be. Barack brings youth, like JFK, idealism, like RFK, peace, like MLK. Mihelle will also bring a new tone to the office of the first lady which has languished under Laura's lackluster performance. I believe that Obama/Biden can bring about this change. I want change I can believe in. I can believe in the upcoming change.

I don't think one man, even the President can make the sort of change I want in this country, no matter who he is.........but having said this..

I think the ideals that Obama/Biden(in his 1988, run) communicates are what our government/people should aspire to, that is we must work together, for a strong economy, good education, good healthcare, even national security! To keep this country and it's ideals #1 in the world.

We cannot achieve any of these things unless we get rid of the "ME" first attitue that permates this country. "Me" can't accomplish a damn thing, but selfishness and greed.

Every success this country has had be it war, invention, or even putting a man on the moon. Came from the hard work of a lot of people working together.

This is the change I'm looking for us to get away from this polorization and come together to solve SOME problems in the country!
