I'm chaining myself to a dog house on July 1 for 8 hours... Would you care to join me?
It's all a part of the Dogs Deserve Better CHAIN OFF 2007. The CHAIN OFF, held every July 4th for the past 5 years, has evolved from one woman chaining herself to a doghouse for 33 hours in Pennsylvania in 2004, to 11 contestants chaining themselves for as long as 13 days to win a new car in 2006.
This year, volunteers from around the country (and Canada!) will be chaining themselves to dog houses from 8 to 48 hours to increase awareness and raise money for the Dogs Deserve Better cause. Their mission is to bring chained dogs into the home and back into the family. Not serve as lawn ornaments at the end of a chain, where they often become territorial and aggressive.
"As the days become years, many of these dogs sit, lay, eat, and defecate within the same 10-foot radius. Chained by the neck, they exist without respect, love, exercise, social interaction, and sometimes even basic nourishment. They live as prisoners, yet long to be pets."
I know it's short notice, but if you would like to find a CHAIN OFF event in your area or organize your own event, visit Link
