As an adoptee who was given up for adoption at birth and an adoptive parent of two older children born in Russia, the title of this CNN article caught my eye.

"Halted foreign adoptions leave would-be parents in limbo"

How typical is it that the media's focus is on the would-be parents?  Yes, I feel for these people longing for a baby....but that baby is not a commodity.  It is a life.  A human with rights as a citizen even if their country or our country doesn't acknowledge their full rights.  Personally, I am thankful to our State Department for stepping up and challenging these countries to protect their children and their mothers from possible coercion and human trafficking.

my mom never got to spend time with her dad, as when parents used to divorce, one parent had to be morally inept to be divorced, so kids only saw one parent. inept means place blame on one. i never got to see that grandpa. all kids long to see a biological parent. believe it or not, i talked to lady who was from Russia, a peditrician, and she was troubled to deliver a baby, to see it adopted. someone from the ukraine said it did not matter if they got the American lifestyle! thinking i would just up and agree. i did not! if it is posible, i agree adoption should be a last resort. i also believe abortion might cease nigh altogether, if mothers could get help from those who say abortion is always wrong, instead of a tongue lashing! i love that baby! i know kids are important-- cause i don't have em! what a kick in the head! thank you blueberry for sharing your knowledge on adoption! we need knowledge!

You know, you are correct about that, and I noticed that the article stated that the family was in suburban Washington. Well there are plenty of American children that are looking for homes. If they were serious and they were unconcerned for the child's ethnicity, they could have had a child right away. Unfortunately, there are many AA children for adoption in the DC/MD area.
