The campaign is being run so poorly I wonder if McCain's heart is really in it?

I know he would like to be president, he might even be a good president, but the timing is just not right, since a superstar OBAMA is on the scene. But I think the RNC is forcing him to run a campaign he hates, I think 2000 was more McCain's style. You have to think behind the scenes he really does not like the racists and religious radicals he has to pander to

Yes he does

Don't be so naive my friends.

McCain wants to win and he will do his best EVER to win.

Which is why we have to take nothing for granted.

IF WE DON'T VOTE, MCCAIN WILL WIN.

not taking anything for granted, just trying to understand why the campaign is being so poorly run

I think it has to do with planning. McCain, I believe did not really think he had a chance to be in this position. His goal was to get through the primaries, there was no plan futher than that. On the other hand Barack and Co. had a plan that encompassed a possible GE run. After the primaries they just changed gears.
Poorly Run

It is poorly run because McCain is in a tough position and yes he wants to win desperately. The John McCain you see today is not the same John McCain he was in 2000. He sees this as his last chance to be president and is doing whatever it takes. He wants it so badly he will say anything and is getting quite nasty because he he knows he will probably lose.

In order to win the republican primaries McCain had to morph into Bush. Even now he has to appease the Bush base. The problem is that if he denounces Bush and his policies he alienates this base, but if he doesn't he alienates all of those who think having Bush as president has been a huge mistake.

In other words he is trying to be two things at once that is follow the republican agenda to the nth degree and yet claim he would take the country in a different direction. This would explain what seems to be a split personality and why his position has shifted on many issues. He asks who is the real Barack Obama. I ask which John McCain would we have in the White House.

I agree, news sources are trying to paint us as confident of a victory. I have to tell you that in Houston we are as busy today as we were in the primaries. We take nothing for granted. Texas is already written off as solidly in McCains camp, so we can not give in.

GOP EXTREMIST INCONSISTENCIES
By Andrew Stergiou Oct 28th 2008 at 6:25 am EDT (Updated Oct 28th 2008 at 6:25 am EDT)
Perhaps you have a rhetorical point as to others intentions but as one can not read people's minds, or suppose if matters were different I believe your points are moot McCain specifically lends his name to some political statements of a very dubious nature.

If the GOP had someone more prominent than McCain (rememeber the lackluster of the GOP primaries) perhaps he would not have been nominated:

Don't forget that Robert Dole (rememeber him?)stated on TV that Richard Nixon would probablly not pass muster these days so as to satisfy the various GOP extremists in the GOP so as to be nominated.
