Does McCain want to win
The campaign is being run so poorly I wonder if McCain's heart is really in it?
I know he would like to be president, he might even be a good president, but the timing is just not right, since a superstar OBAMA is on the scene. But I think the RNC is forcing him to run a campaign he hates, I think 2000 was more McCain's style. You have to think behind the scenes he really does not like the racists and religious radicals he has to pander to

McCain wants to win and he will do his best EVER to win.
Which is why we have to take nothing for granted.
IF WE DON'T VOTE, MCCAIN WILL WIN.
In order to win the republican primaries McCain had to morph into Bush. Even now he has to appease the Bush base. The problem is that if he denounces Bush and his policies he alienates this base, but if he doesn't he alienates all of those who think having Bush as president has been a huge mistake.
In other words he is trying to be two things at once that is follow the republican agenda to the nth degree and yet claim he would take the country in a different direction. This would explain what seems to be a split personality and why his position has shifted on many issues. He asks who is the real Barack Obama. I ask which John McCain would we have in the White House.
If the GOP had someone more prominent than McCain (rememeber the lackluster of the GOP primaries) perhaps he would not have been nominated:
Don't forget that Robert Dole (rememeber him?)stated on TV that Richard Nixon would probablly not pass muster these days so as to satisfy the various GOP extremists in the GOP so as to be nominated.
