THE OFFICIAL COLLEGE OUTREACH ARM OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

Words have to be more than just words. As we reach the apex of another election cycle it is time for words to start having real meaning. Unless you were the neighborhood bully one of the first platitudes thrown at you came from your mother, "Sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never harm you." Nice sentiment but as we grew up we learned that words can be more harmful than sticks and stones. The words I would most like to see us work into the fabric of our government come from Pres. Eisenhower and Sen. Robert Kennedy.

In his Farewell Address Pres. Eisenhower said, "In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex." On March 18, 1968, Bobby Kennedy challenged a nation with the idea that GNP should not be how we judge the greatness and strength of our nation. Hear what he said by following this link. http://www.alternet.org/story/79474/.
As I discuss politics in my multiple personality district in Maryland (we are represented at the state level by all Republicans and all Democrats on the federal level) I am frequently called a socialist.

I point out that as a nation we are at one time both a fascist and socialist government. The military-industrial complex that did seek and has acquired unwarranted influence in our government represents the fascist in our midst. They are now represented by the once libertarian Republican Party.

The socialist in our midst do believe that there is more to being great than our GNP. They are the Democrats that believe that the more you have the more you should give back. This is an effort to live up to the platitude that says, "What ever you did to the least, you did unto me." I frequently hear from the right that FDR was the biggest socialist ever to govern. To that I always answer with, what does it say about America that we elected FDR four times. To insure that this never happens again the right passed the XXII Amendment. Some Dems voted for this amendment because they feared that the MIC would have a similar run of governing. Well despite the XXII Amendment they have beginning with Pres. Nixon and continuing through G. W. Bush.

The problem we now face is how we get "everyman" to follow the ideal of the Democrats that believe that there is something more than our GNP that makes America great. The challenge is to do this against the MIC that at every turn says follow us by scaring the electorate. It began with a communist under your bed. Then it was everyone that gets on an airplane is either a terrorist or a drug mule. Since all of them will tear down our government you must therefore relinquish you civil liberties so that we who have much can protect you. Now we are going back to fear the evil empire, the sleeping bear that is Mother Russia.

We must point out that the awakening Russia, the Muslim terrorist and violent drug kingpins are all the out growth of conservative politics. Russia, whether it the USSR or Russia alone acted out of fear that the fascists that are the MIC would attempt to rule over them. Why because we were not satisfied with having enough nuclear warheads to split the earth in two. The Islamic Freedom Fighters that Charlie Wilson armed turned their back on us because we turned our backs on them. Drug dealing went from transactions between friends to drug cartels because the illegality of drugs drove the price up. Why because the risk got ever increasingly higher. The MIC knows the greater the risk, the greater the reward.

Now as we face the choice of who shall govern we must choose to begin to govern, by the people, for the people. We must insist that the citizenry take back the influence acquired by the MIC. We must recognize that the rule of law that we was once followed is how we measure our greatness and not how many GI Joe Dolls or fictional books masquerading as non fiction, or cars that get 25% more MPG rather than 400% more MPG we sell.

McCain says that you're not rich until you earn five million dollars/year. Democrats say that you cross that line at about a quarter million dollars a year. Doesn't the $4,750,000.00 difference say it all? When I was growing up I knew people who not just wanted to be millionaires but wanted to earn (?) their first million by age 21 or 25. So who are you going to follow the ones that tell you that there is a communist (Russian) under your bed, a terrorist ready to get on your plane and a drug pusher in your first graders playground. Or are you going with the guys that believe that with much come much responsibility to your fellowman. Let's face it the Republican Party believes whoever has the most toys when we all die wins. Democrats believe there is nothing more rewarding than the offering of a helping hand.

Words...

My favorite book, the Bible is full of words. But only until I apply them, do I get the full miricle of the words. Remember these words from Obama..."We are the ones we.ve been waiting for"?

He is right.

We must change the way we think about ourselves and others before we "America" can see the full miricle of a more perfect America where all of its citizens are living out their dreams.

"We are the ones we've been waiting for".

Words....Do you believe it?

Words have great power. They are seeds which bring forth fruit in their kind.

This is especially true of hateful words because it is our nature to be selfish.

I agree with you Robert. Words I've been saying since Jan08....

President Barack Obama! I'm sending out that positive energy. It has caught on. Everybody I know is doing it. Well maybe not everybody I know. But it sure seems like it sometimes.

We are getting to see with Obama how positive, generous and inclusive words have great power.
THE movement that these words have created, it great testiment to that.

I don't believe that it is our nature to be selfish-----as the endorphines that we have been given that makes us feel good, are much more lasting when we are giving and do for others---especially when it is done anonymously.

The reason that some are so hateful, jealous, self centered etc, ---imo, is a long subject, that I won't go into.
