We as citizens are always held accountable for our actions by our government. There are laws that we must obey and follow or be held accountable for our actions, i.e. pay fines and or jail. Just as we have laws that govern us, we have the Constitution & The Bill of Rights that the government must obey if we are truly a country that believes in Liberty and the rule of law.

So when the leader of our government, President George W. Bush exercises absolute power to go to war (which only Congress can declare) and to lie for the reasons to go to war. To suspend habeas corpus and to engage in warrant less searches. When our government jails journalists for not naming names or uses torture to interrogate prisoners. When our President can disobey more then 750 laws since he took office, claiming that he has the power to set aside any statute passed by Congress. Most all of this accomplished by using fear mongering as a tactic to implement his power grab. Remember Ben Franklin, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Does any of this ring any bells America?

I can only think of one word to define our President, Tyrant; One who exercises absolute power without legal warrant, whether ruling well or badly.

So until President George W. Bush is held accountable for his blatant tyrannical rule and all the wrongs are righted, don't tell me that we live in a Free Country, it's a lie.

Whether the new president is Hillary or Barrack we need to hold these criminals liable for their actions, including possible war crimes trials on an international basis.

Hillary doesn't seem ready to do anything about it. McCainBush will do nothing about it. Barack has specifically spoken about it.

I guess this is a good question for the leaders in this democratic congress.

Arguments against

Congress gave its sanction to use force. Frankly, Congress has no backbone, refusing to take on their responsibilities with regards to the declaration of war. They're too afraid of what the Supreme Court would say on the subject. The president is too. That's why the president always asks, and the congress always rubber-stamps the request.

As far as freedom, it's a relative, not absolute scale. No one living under the control of a government has been free by the absolute standard. So long as one can state without fear of repercussions the views you just expressed, there is more freedom here than just about anywhere. If you doubt it, name a country, and I'll find a freedom of speech prosecution that happened there that cannot happen here that will appall you.

I disagree, Freedom is absolute, either you have it or you don't. It's like you can't be a little pregnant. To suggest that a little freedom is tolerable is intolerable in my way of thinking. As far as my free speech, write a letter critical of the police in your town and see just how much your speech will cost you.

In absolute terms, the argument has no meaning, because NO ONE is free.

I would not have a problem writing a letter critical of police in my town. Of course, government and police are both human institutions, and thus faulty and prone to abuse, even if (in the end) the court exonerates me and punishes my persecutor.

I agree with all of this and Congress doesn't have a back bone. But think about it. It is our fault. Because the American people really do not get up and vote.....they can continue to do the same stupid crap. Moreover, when we do vote, we keep voting the same nuckleheads into office.
